The roots of our sustainability
In the 1970s, right from the company’s inception, Italo and Giuseppa chose to practise farming with a focus on the environment and sustainability – a vision that was still relatively uncommon at the time. At a time marked by the advent of agricultural mechanisation and the introduction of the first chemical weedkillers, they decided to take a different path, going against the grain.
With passion and determination, they continued to practise traditional viticulture, without the use of chemicals. To care for the vineyards, they used only Bordeaux mixture and sulphur – the very same substances that still form the basis of plant protection in organic farming today.
The value of work and respect for the land
Their summers consisted of nights spent ‘dusting’ the vineyards with sulphur and long days in the sun, accompanied by the rhythm of the tiller’s feeler bar. Italo was at the wheel of the OM 650 DT Special, whilst Giuseppa, with her lightning-fast reflexes, operated the feeler bar which, via a hydraulic circuit, guided the tiller as it removed the weeds between the rows.
A demanding job, carried out with dedication and respect for the land, always taking care to preserve its natural balance and fertility.
A vision that endures over time
Today, in 2026, after more than fifty years of history, we have refined our techniques, learnt from our mistakes and incorporated new technologies, whilst continuing to follow the path laid out by them, the true pioneers of sustainable agriculture.
Our aim is to farm in a healthy and natural way, without the use of chemicals, and to look after the land responsibly so that future generations may also have the same good fortune that we have had: to live on and protect this land.
Biodiversity, permaculture and natural balance
Organic farming is often associated with ‘doing nothing’, or doing as little as possible, to the point of not carrying out any plant protection treatments at all. For us, it is exactly the opposite.
Farming means caring for the soil throughout the seasons, respecting its natural cycles, which are essential for the vitality of microorganisms and for maintaining its natural structure. By practising permaculture, we encourage the presence of microorganisms, beneficial insects and biodiversity – elements that contribute to the balance of the agricultural ecosystem and the health of our crops.
The winegrower observes and intervenes only when necessary, using targeted, low-impact organic cultivation practices and plant protection treatments. The soil is also enriched with organic matter produced on the estate itself, derived from grape processing waste and livestock manure, in a virtuous cycle that reduces waste and makes the most of the estate’s resources.
Presence, responsiveness and tangible sustainability
Nature moves at a rapid pace and does not wait. However, it always allows a window of opportunity to carry out the necessary action, whether it be a cultivation task or a plant protection treatment.
That is why we believe there are no shortcuts: we must seize the right moment with dedication, sacrifice and prompt action, even when it means working at night or on public holidays. It is this approach that enables us, year after year, to strike a balance between quantity and quality, demonstrating that productive and sustainable organic farming is not only possible but represents the future of responsible viticulture.
